Might and Magic: Duel of Champions

After UBI soft bought the Might and Magic title, many games after this name arise beside the old RPG and SLG genre. One of them locates in the Trading Card Game genre, presented soon after the Assassin's Creed: Recollection, and its name is Might and Magic: Duel of Champions.

MM:DoC is currently available in PC and is free to download and play. All currency needed can be acquired during game play, however, the availability is quite limited. Additional resources can also be bought with credit cards. Booster packs/boxes and pre-built decks are purchasable to expand your army. Each player controls a hero card which resembles the leader of an army and command various creatures from different factions. The game play experience is quite similar to the Heroes of Might and Magic series with a more intense pace.

Every new account can choose among the factions and receive a starter deck from that faction. A tutorial will also be given to instruct the rules. In Campaign mode, resources can only be obtained once per encounter. The main way to collect resources is to defeat other players in the Challenge mode and the Tournament mode. And of course, the more resources you have, the more cards you would get.

The cards in this game are divided into 5 types, Hero, Creature, Magic, Resource(card type, not the resource currency mentioned above), and Event. Hero card is revealed at the start of battle, resembling the player. It also indicates the army faction you lead and the spell schools you cast. Creatures come from the hero's faction and follow your order. Different passive abilities can also be seen on creatures. Magic cards are either ongoing or instant. Ongoing magics are permanent unless a duration is indicated. Instant magics could deal damages or place different counters on creatures, all of which happen right away. Resource cards act like Instant Magic cards. They give the player resources, mana, additional draw, or even cards back from your graveyard. Event cards consist another deck. At the beginning of the match, both player shuffles their event cards together and reveal the top two cards. Each player can activate the revealed cards as if they were in his hands. Event cards act like mutual magic/resource cards and would greatly affect the late game when the mana pool grow large enough.

MM:DoC have enough player to match whenever you want. It would be a good time-killer if you are bored. But it is not really a fascinating game compared to Magic: the Gathering. Try it first, and only spend your money when you like it.
